TN to form Auto industrial Development Centre to woo investments



Chennai:
In a bid to attain the target of producing five million vehicles per annum by 2020, Tamil Nadu government will be forming an Automotive Industrial Development Centre which will offer investment facilitation services to companies wishing to invest in the auto industry in state.
Tamil Nadu Automobile and Auto Components Policy 2014 states that AIDC, which is part of state’s theme ‘Tamil Nadu, the Partner in Automotive Sector Investment’ will support and facilitate the government to deliver appropriate policy framework, policy implementation, policy interventions and policy mid-course correction aimed at making the state numero uno in Asia in the automobile and components industry.
The new policy also states that the centre would assist new investors in the decision making process and facilitate supply chain development, suppliers development and skills development and training.
The centre would also help establish an Automotive Suppliers Park (ASP) to improve the logistics competitiveness for the units set up there besides offer space, area development, shared business services and optimized logistics service.
Interestingly, the policy apires to promote new auto clusters and attract mega automobile projects with spin off potential particularly in souther districts.
Aiming to make TN numero uno in Asia in auto and components industry and Chennai as one of the top five centres in the world in auto sector, the policy also lays thrust on augmenting the talent pool to meet the long term skilled manpower requirements of the industry and to encourage public-private-partnership initiatives and industry-institution partnership in skill development.
