Chennai:
Work on the Chennai Port-Maduravoyal elevated corridor is
likely to resume in the next three months, according to National Highway
Authority of India Chief General Manager (Technical), Tamil Nadu and Kerala I G
Reddy.
Welcoming the Madras High Court decision to recommence
the work on the project which was stalled for two years after Water Resources
Department directed NHAI to stop work on the elevated road project stating that
that pile caps constructed for the project obstructed the free flow of water in
the Cooum, Reddy said that NHAI is looking forward to work with the state
government.
He said the concession period will also be worked out as
the project was stalled for two years.
To a query on whether the barricades between Maduravoyal
to Nerkundram which was removed by the traffic police would be set up again as
the work is about to resume, he said it would be decided only after discussions
with the state government officials.
He also said the cost is likely to be reworked.
Interestingly, after the project was hit by legal tangle, NHAI worried over the
loss incurred has even sought of shelving the project.
