Coastguard apprehends five Lankan boats, 25 crew

Chennai:
Indian Coastguard in a swift anti-poaching operation apprehended five Sri Lankan fishing boats and 25 fishermen about 5 nautical miles Southeast of Karaikal.
The boats --- Bhawana (MUL-A-0058 MTR), Sapun Putha (IMUL-A-1207 MTR), Lahiru Putha – 2 (IMUL-A-0061 MTR), Dushyanta Putha (IMUL-A-1108 MTR) AND Ruchila Putha -2 (IMUL-A-134 MTR) were apprehended by Indian Coastguard (ICG) ship Rajshree at about 1pm on Sunday.
The boats along with crew were escorted to Karaikal and subsequently handed over to Coastal security Group (CSG) Nagapattinam at 3pm on Monday.
The Indian coastguard has so far apprehended seven Sri Lankan fishing boats along with 34 crew since January 2014.
