Chennai:
Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority’s (CMDA) on
Tuesday locked and sealed fourth and fifth floors of a multi-storeyed hospital
building in Thirumalai nagar Avenue in Korattur.
The action by CMDA comes in the wake of Madras High Court rejecting the petition of
the promoters of hospital challenging Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority
order to restore the land to its original position.
The High Court has observed that the hospital promoters
without obtaining planning permission constructed a hospital building.
CMDA said that the owner of the building constructed unauthorized
ground floor plus five floors of multi-storeyed hospital building.
“The fourth and fifth floor of the hospital building has
been locked and sealed,” a CMDA release stated.
CMDA stated that despite locking and sealing notice
issued on November 12, 2013, the owner did not rectify the building and instead
continue to proceed with the construction to complete the building.
He also approached the court against the lock and seal
notice issued by CMDA, an official stated. Interestingly, the court gave green
signal to proceed against the hospital. In its observation, the High court
stated that, “It is a wonder as to how a hospital could be conducted in an
illegal building without attracting the attention of the authorities.”
