Chennai:
The Electric Theatre building, the first movie theatre of
south India located in Anna Road Head Post Office Complex has been draft listed
as Grade I heritage building by Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority.
The heritage building finds its mention in the second
draft list prepared by CMDA.
At present Anna Road Head Post Office Philately Bureau is
functioning in the erstwhile theatre, a release from the Postmaster General of
Chennai region stated.
The release stated that department of posts is keen on
preserving heritage buildings with due care taking into consideration the
precincts of national or historic importance and embodifying excellence in
architectural style, design, technology and material usage in these buildings.
