Chennai Central Excise Zone has collected revenue worth Rs 14,445 crore this financial year till January 2014.
Speaking during an event to mark the Central Excise Day, R Shakuntala, Chief Commissioner of Central Excise, Chennai Zone hailed the achievement of the officers of the Central Excise Department for their hard work, efforts on simplification and rationalization of tax rates and procedures, greater use of Information Technology and improved service delivery standards, which have contributed substantially to the tax buoyancy.
She also gave away Appreciation Certificates to 23 Top Assesses of Central Excise and Service Tax in recognition to their contribution to the government exchequer. Last financial year Chennai Central Excise zone has collected revenue around Rs 17,000 crore.
A Navaneethakrishnan, Chairman, Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, C Santhanam, cine actor and S Ramesh, chief commissioner of customs were present during the occasion.
