Vasan urges protesters to refrain from Thoothkudi port blockade

Chennai:
Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan on Friday urged the anti-nuclear protesters to refrain from taking up protest to stop the ship movement in VOC port of Thoothkudi on Saturday.
The minister’s appeal to the protesters comes in the wake of  anti-nuclear activists and fishermen calling for blockade of the Tuticorin port by using boats.
“It is unfortunate that protesters don’t understand that this type of protest would affect the export import trade of the region,” the minister said.
The port contributes highly to the development of economy and provides jobs to millions of people and such act will stall the port activities, Vasan said adding that
Vasan said that he hoped the state government will take all out efforts to contain the protest which affects the overall growth of country in general and Tamil Nadu in particular.
