US consulate in Chennai was attacked after protests against the United States that erupted in West Asia a couple of days ago, over an anti-Islamic film, spread to South Asia.
Surprisingly, India became the first country in the region to witness demonstrations.
A group of protesters pelted stones at the American consulate in Chennai. The attack comes despite an intelligence alert warning of such incidents in Indian cities.
The US Embassy in New Delhi and its consulates in other metros had been put on high alert following the warning.
