Chennai:
A total of 379 officers, including 288 gentlemen cadets
and 71 ladies, will earn their stripes during the passing out parade on
Saturday.
This will the largest batch ever to pass out from OTA
Chennai in its half a century old history.
The parade is slated to be reviewed by Lt Gen A K Singh,
General Officer Commanding-in-chief of army’s southern command, said Lt Gen SS
Jog, Commandant of the Academy.
He said the batch also includes 20 cadets from
Afghanistan due to join Afghan National Army. Since this is the golden jubilee
year of the academy, the passing out parade is expected to be one of the
grandest ever parade.
Jog also said that the army is facing a shortage of
officers. “We are short of 14,000 officers,” he said adding that it will be bridged
soon.
