Former chief planner of CMDA passes away

Former chief planner of CMDA Dattatri passes away
Chennai:
Former chief urban planner of Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority and recipient of UN Habitat Scroll of Honour award G Dattatri passed away at BSS Hospital on Wednesday morning.

The 82-year-old planner died of cardiac arrest after being admitted to the hospital on Sunday afternoon, family sources said.

“He was not doing well for the last two days. He had diabetes, high blood pressure and heart problem,” family sources said.

He has been involved in many stages of planning and development as part of the Directorate of Town Planning, Tamil Nadu, and is still active in promoting urban development and environmental management concepts to youth and citizens groups. He was also involved in assisting the Auroville Township in their development plans. A former UN advisor in Sri Lanka, Dattari is also the founder member and chairman of Institute of Town Planners India, (ITPI), Tamil Nadu Regional Chapter and Fellow of the Association of Metropolitan Development Authorities AMDA. He is presently trustee of Citizens Alliance for Sustainable Living (SUSTAIN), a civil society non-profit organization for promoting sustainable development.
