24 gold medals for Rajasthan youth

It was a Red Letter Day for Rajasthan lad Rajesh Kumar Yogi as he received 24 gold medals from Tamil Nadu governor K Rosaiah on Tuesday.
A graduate of veterinary sciences and animal husbandry Yogi was the cynosure of all eyes during the 16th Convocation address of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University as he was bestowed with 24 gold medals.
“It is too heavy, said the lad from Rajasthan as he held it for the photographers who lapped it up with their cameras.
Later talking to Express, Yogi said that he wanted to serve the people. “I want to be in the field rather than talking about agriculture or livestock from the closed rooms,” he said.
Interestingly, Yogi already has an offer from the Rajasthan government. “I would be joining as veterinary officer in the state,” said Yogi, who is a resident of Sikar in Rajasthan.
A total of 246 graduates were awarded degrees by Rosaiah. This year, the university also gave away two new awards. These include ‘Chancellor of TANUVAS Dr K Rosaiah Award for best Phd student in Animal Production subjects and Dr V Gnanaprakasam, former vice-chancellor of TANUVAS Endowment Award for best outgoing Bachelor of veterinary sciences, and Animal Husbandry student of Veterinary College and Research Institute, Tirunelveli.
Speaking on the occasion, noted scientist M S Swaminathan highlighted how the dairy sector is important for abolishing malnutrition and achieving food security.
Vice chancellor of the university R Prabakaran said that the goal of the university is to produce atleast 5000 skilled personnel during the year to meet the demands of growing dairy industry, poultry and food industry and also to ensure self-employment to school drop-outs.
He said the university is also trying to popularize diversified poultry like turkeys, guinea fowls and Japanese quail for small scale entreprenuership.
He said the university is working towards establishment of industry-university collaborative research consortium to facilitate industry driven research
