Chennai:
Various political outfits on Thursday hit out at the recruitment process of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, alleging lack of transparency as well as its failure to follow the reservation norms in selecting candidates.

Addressing a press conference, Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam president M H Jawahirullah, Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi leader Thol Thirumavalan along with social outfit Dravida Kazhagam functionary Kali Poongundram and RTI activist, scientist and biomedical engineer E Muralidharan demanded a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in the recruitment process in IIT from 1990 to 2013.

They questioned the norms on which certain appointments were made stating that each appointments have unique different norms to suit the situation and person. “There have been instances when a personal interview has been replaced by telephone interview or personal interview replaced by review of curriculum vitae by the selection committee, they alleged.

They also alleged that the dalits as well as Muslims have not been adequately represented in IIT and claimed under-qualified people, who do not suit the norms as prescribed for eligibility to be selected under IIT, have been recruited.

The political leaders along with Muralidharan provided RTI documents as proof to substantiate their claims. They also demanded that those guilty should be punished and demanded justice for those qualified, who were denied an opportunity to serve in India’s premier institute.
