Online policies are slowly catching up and the demand for it has nearly doubled in the state this financial year, according to Life Insurance Corporation zonal manager South Zone T Sitharthan
Speaking on the sidelines of a national seminar ‘Life Insurance in e-commerce environment with special reference to information technology and intellectual property laws’, he said that in 2012, the total online premium income was worth Rs 2.33 crore of which south zone accounted for Rs 35 lakh.
Interestingly, this financial year, it has nearly doubled in south zone accounting for more than the total online premium income across the nation. As per the data available, the online premium current financial year was 1.22 crore and in south zone it was 65.35 lakh. The south zone consists of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Kerala.
Earlier addressing the students, Sitharthan said that LIC is a pioneer in insurance industry with over 25 crore policies with full information technology in place. He also hailed the law graduates and said that they have ample opportunity not only to become lawyers and judges but also officials in various public sector units.
“They are holding top positions because of administrative capabilities as well as adopting themselves to the environment of the country as well as the environment of particular organization,” he added.
Former Madras High Court Judge K Venkataraman stressed on the need for insurance firms to provide insurance premiums at affordable cost to common man. Registrar of Tamil Nadu Dr Ambedkar Law University D Shankar and Regional Manager (legal), south zone, Life Insurance Corporation L Ajith Kumar also spoke on the occasion.
