University of Latvia has entered into an memorandum of understanding with Madras University on faculty exchange, according to the rector of the varsity Marcis Auzinsh.
Auzinsh, who is part of a high level Latvian delegation lead by the country's foreign affairs minister Edgars Rinkēvičs, told reporters during an interaction organised by Madras Chamber of Commere and Industry that the MoU is signed in the wake of Lativia University having separate centre on Indian studies.
"Since the focus is on subjects related to India, we have entered into an MoU with Madras University," he said.
Rinkēvičs said that the focus of his visit is to boost the economic ties with India. The delegation has already visited Hyderabad. The Latvian foreign minister said that delegatin is also looking at investments in tourism, IT sector and logistics.
He also highlighted that Latvia has the ambiene for shooting of Indian films. "We are not that costly as Western European nations," said Rinkēvičs.
The delegation had also met Tamil Nadu governor Rosaiah and Chennai Port Trust chairman Atulya Mishra. The visit of Rinkevics would conclude in New Delhi where he will meet his Indian counterpart Salman Khurshid.
