Lighthouse gift for Chennaites on Children’s Day

It would be a Children’s Day gift for Chennaites as Union Shipping Ministry would open the gate of the lighthouse for children and tourists from November 14.

Speaking after disbursing cheques worth Rs 1.5 crore to beneficiaries identified under the Corporate Social Responsibility activities and one time lump sum payment to the dependents of the deceased employees, the minister said that from November 14, the gates of the lighthouse would be opened to the school children and the public.

Light House tourism was conceived by the Shipping Ministry to enable visitors to learn about maritime history, historical events and the country’s cultural heritage. Interestingly, the lighthouse on Marina Beach will be the first one in the State to entertain visitors, followed by Mamallapuram, which is expected to take couple of months.

The minister also said that the work on the Chennai-Ennore port connectivity road (formerly EMRIP) is progressing well and is expected to be inaugurated by December.

The project road network of 30.1 km. covers Ennore Expressway (5.9 kms), Thiruvottiur Ponneri Pancheti Road  (9 Km),  Manali Oil Refinery Road (5.4 kms),  Northern segment of Inner Ring Road – 8.1 Km.n and Inside Fishing Harbour Road  (1.6 km).

He also warned that India-Sri Lanka ties would be affected if Sri Lanka continues to attack or arrest Tamil Nadu fishermen.

The minister earlier disbursed cheques worth rs 1.31 crore to 32 dependents of deceased employees as one time lumpsum payment besides disbursing cheques of Rs 19 lakh to  meritorious students, schools, Nirmala Sishu Bhavan in Royapuram, Annai Illam in Mylapore besides providing school bags and uniforms to needy students.
