Chennai:
K Syama Raju, managing director of Hotel
Maurya, Bangalore, has been elected president of The South India Hotels &
Restaurants Association (SIHRA).
He was elected during the 62nd
Annual General Meeting at the GRT Convention Centre, Chennai, recently. K Murali Rao, mamanging director of New Woodlands
Hotels is elected vice President (Tamilnadu & Puducherry).
T Nataraajan, CEO, GRT Hotels & Resorts,
Chennai is elected secretary of SIHRA.
Raju said that despite global economic
recession, the Indian Hospitality
industry had a growth of 6 per cent
and the foreign exchange grew at 8 per cent. Though there is slow down in Foreign travel
arrivals, there is an increase of Domestic travelers to tune of 13.6 million in
2012. There is also increase of hotels inventories especially under Budget
category in Tier I, II and III cities in South India, Raju added.
