DNA test confirms identity of Coast Guard's Dornier crew

Chennai:

The Tamil Nadu Forensics Department has identified the human remains
of the three crew members of Indian Coast Guard’s Dornier  aircraft
which were recovered under the sea, 35 days after the plane crashed on
June 8.

The forensics department identified the three crew members --- Deputy
Commandant Vidyasagar, Co-pilot Deputy Commandant Subash Suresh and
Navigator Deputy Commandant MK Soni after conducting the DNA test.

The forensic department extracted the samples from the remains of the
crew members and matched it with the DNA samples collected from the
parents of the three crew members on July 16.

Inspector General SP Sharma, Commander, Coast Guard (East) said that the Alandur Court has handed over the results of the tests as well as remains of the three crew members on Friday evening.

“We will be handing over the report as well as the remains to the
three families. It is likely that it would be handed on Tuesday as
Soni’s family has to come from Bhopal and Subash Suresh’s wife is in
Qatar,” said Sharma.

Indian Coastguard would be paying its final homage to the three
officers on Tuesday.
