Plea to name Indian Institute of Space Technology in Thiruvananthapuram after Kalam

Chennai:

A proposal has been put forth before BJP president Amit Shah to name
the Indian Institute of Space Technology at Trivandrum
after former president A P J Abdul Kalam.

N Sivasubramanian, former chief general manager of Liquid Propulsion
System Centre, ISRO, told Express that he submitted the proposal to
Shah during his visit to Madurai.

Sivasubramanian, who has spent nearly half of his 40-year long career
with Kalam, also advocated for establishment of desalination plant
near Ramnad.

Interestingly, the former space scientist also urged the BJP president
for establishing second rocket launch site at Kulasekarapattinam in
Tuticorin district.

“This is an ideal location and could save rocket fuel or increase the
rocket's carrying capacity. It shall help in employment generation for
large number of economically backward people around the area,” he
added.
