Metro Rail likely to start trial run on elevated stretch between Little Mount to OTA from October

This October, Chennaites are likely to witness the trial run of Chennai Metro train on the elevated stretch between Little Mount to OTA.

The track is ready and the trails would be conducted on the stretch between Alandur to St Thomas Mount and Little Mount to OTA in the month of October, said a senior Metro rail official.

He said that tracks have already been laid and currently Chennai Metro has started installing overhead power cables on elevated lines. 

This would also make the officials prepare for the commercial run which is likely by the beginning of 2016.

It is learnt that once the stretch between Little Mount to Alandur is ready, Metro Rail is expecting more ridership. 

Currently, the ridership is not enough on the working days except on Saturdays and Sundays, when Chennaites flock to experience the Metro Rail.

“Once the Little Mount to OTA stretch is completed, we can expect more people take to Chennai Metro. This would also link educational institutions like Anna University, which is not that far from the Little Mount station,” said a official.

Meanwhile, the work on the Koyambedu-Egmore stretch is also progressing smoothly and Chennai Metro hopes that it would be ready by June next year.

“Tracks are being laid on the stretch and work on the stations is also progressing smoothly,” said a Metro Rail source.
