Chennai:
Former Union Telecom Minister A Raja, who is an accused in 2G spectrum allocation case, has allegedly amassed assets worth Rs 27.92 crore, which are disproportionate to his known and legal and lawful sources of income, according to Central Bureau of Investigation.
CBI, which had registered a case against Raja and 16 of his close aides for possession of assets disproportionate to the known source of income on Wednesday, alleged that Raja had ammased assets and pecuniary resources during 1999-2010 while serving as MP and Union Minister for various ministries which were disproportionate to his known and lawful sources of income.
“Raja had allegedly amassed assets to the tune of Rs 27. 92 crore (approximately) in his name and in the name of family members and his friends and other close associates which were disproportionate to his known sources of income,” said a CBI spokesperson.
Interestingly, CBI conducted searches on Wednesday at 20 places, including the residential and office permises of Raja and 16 accused, which include the wife of Sadiq Basha, former director Green House Promoters who died in mysterious circumstances. It is believed that Raja's relatives had stakes in Green House promoters. Batcha was questioned thrice by the CBI and was to be grilled again when he was found hanging by his wife Rahena Banu.

Searches were conducted in six places at Chennai, two at Coimbatore, eight at Permabalur, and three at Trichy and one in New Delhi.
“Several incriminating documents, including finacial statements, Income Tax returns, immovable property documents, bills, vouchers and invoices,” a CBI spokeswoman revealed.
“Certain bank accounts and fixed deposits in teh names of the accused have also been identified,” CBI said.
It is learnt that several of his close relatives and associates had allegedly an exponential fiancial growth under suspicious circumstances and had acquired assets worth several crores without sufficient wherewithal during this period.
