Many departments of Union Govt not providing pensioners with ID cards

Pensioners are not being provided with Identity Cards by several government departments and most of the Identity cards provided to pensioners are not in a prescribed format, according to Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.

The ministry in an office memorandum has said that despite instructions being issued to Department of Pensions and Pensions Welfare in the year 2000 and subsequently through office memorandum on March 30, 2013 and July, 25, 2013, most of departments or offices are not issuing identity cards to their retired employees.

The ministry said that from now on the Pensioners Identity Card will now also have the Aadhar card number of pensioner if available.

Interestingly, the ministry has also laid down some specifications for pensioners Identity card to be issued by the department or offices. These include the format of the Pensioner’s Identity Card as well as the size.

“The pensioners identity card should be prited (and not hand written) on good quality of paper besides the identity card should be laminated by the department or office before handing it over to the pensioner
