Chennai:
Tamil Nadu will get four new 100-bedded ESIC hospitals in Tirupur, Kanyakumari, Sriperumbudur and Tuticorin at a cost of nearly Rs 380 crore, according to Union labour minister Bandaru Dattatreya.
Addressing reporters here, the minister also said that the land has already been provided by the state government and the hospitals would be set up in the next two years
He also said that the government would upgrade 400 ESIC dispensaries to six-bed hospitals. “We will be allocating Rs 4 crore per dispensary to convert it into six-bed hospital,” he said.
Dattatreya also said that 30- bedded hospital will be set up at Dindigul, Ranipet, Tambaram, Kovilpatti, Ambur, Rajapalayam and Virudhnagar.
He also said that the Union government is planning to bring one crore workers under the employee state Insurance Corporation. This comes as Ministry of Labour and Employment has launched a nationwide campaign to promote registration of employees and employers under ESIC and Employment Provident fund act.
Meanwhile, employees have March 31, 2017 to register themselves and their employees under ESIC scheme to Promote Registration of employees and employers ( SPREE). Under SPREE contribution of employee and employer is waived for past period.
“Till now in South India we have registered 1.9 lakh workers and 1,400 establishments,” said the minister.
He also said that there is no impact assessment of slowdown in jobs due to demonetisation. “We have requested to send mobile ATMs wherever there is shortage,” he added.
Meanwhile, the government is planning to bring in Plantation Act. “This could pave way for external aid from Centre, State and NGOs to plantation workers. This would also regulate the wages of plantation workers.
