Japan to assist in making Chennai smart

Chennai:

Japan will assist in the development of Chennai as smart city, accordig to Japan’s ambassador to India Kenji Hiramatsu.

Hiramatsu said that besides Chennai, Japan will be assisting in developing Ahmedabad and Varanasi.

Besides Japan, Germany has shown interest to develop Coimbatore Smart city.  

This also comes as the Union Government has selected Chennai and Coimbatore to implement its Strategic Mobility Planning (SMP) for smart and sustainable urban transport solutions.

Japan is also planning Intelligent Transport system for Chennai which comes under the smart city initiative.

Till now many countries have come forward to be associated with development of 15 smart cities. 

These include: United States Trade Development Agency (USTDA) –Visakhapatnam, Ajmer and Allahabad, United Kingdom ---Pune, Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh) and Indore; France --- Chandigarh, Puducherry and Nagpur; and Germany –-- Bhubaneswar, Coimbattore and Kochi.
