TNHB sanctions Rs 245 cr to implement first phase of Thirumazhisai project; Takes over powers of Local bodies

Tamil Nadu Housing Board is planning to revive the Thirumazhisai Township project in 130.17 acres of land by taking over the powers of local bodies to construct a bridge across Bangaru Canal and to construct 120 feet approach road to connect the proposed township scheme.

According to a Government Order, the first phase of Thirumazhisai Satellite Township scheme over an extent of 130.17 acres of land comprised in Kuthambakkam, Parvatharajapuram and Chembarambakkam villages will be built at a cost of Rs 245.70 crore from Boards fund under Section 152 of Tamil Nadu State housing Board act, 1961.

This would mean that Housing Board, whose duty is build houses and sell it, will exercise the powers of local bodies.

As per the Notification-III of the Government Order, the powers and functions exercisable by president of Kuthambakkam, Parvatharajapuram and Chembarambakkam in Tiruvallur district under Tamil Nadu Panchayats Act in receiving plans, sanctioning plans and regulating construction of buildings, laying of roads, underground drainage, water mains, electricity connections shall be exercised by state housing board.

The GO states the order is being issued with the concurrence of Rural development and panchayat Raj department.

The move by state government comes in the wake of housing board finding it difficult to implement the scheme under Self financing Scheme mode.

It is learnt that TNHB in its resolution has resolved to widen the Bangaru canal passing through the government land of Chembarambakkam village and construct a bridge across the canal and also to lay 120 feet approach road to connect the satellite township project.

The project was conceived on September 8, 2011 when former chief minister J Jayalalithaa announced the scheme at an extent of 311.05 acres of land comprised in Chembarambakkam, Kuthambakkam, Parvatharajapuram, Narasingapuram and Vellavedu villages near Thirumazhisai located on Chennai-Bengaluru National highway at a cost of rs 2,160 crore
