Coastguard apprehends Sri Lankan fishing boat

Indian Coastguard ship Vaibhav apprehended a fishing boat with five-member Sri Lankan crew onboard on Tuesday.
Coastguard said that during a routine patrol in Gulf of Mannar a Sri Lankan boat Asitha Putha (IMUL-A-0118CHW) was apprehended south east of Manappad point with approximately 300 kg of fish under The Maritime Zones of India (Regulation of Fishing by Foreign Vessels) Act, 1981. The incident happened around 8.45am.
The apprehended boat is being escorted by the Indian Coastguard ship Vaibhav and would be handed over to local police in Tuticorin on Wednesday.
This also comes in the wake of Coastguard apprehending three Sri Lankan fishing boats with 15 crew in the last two months. A total of 855 kg of fish had been seized, a coastguard release said.
