Pay 50 per cent tax dues to enjoy benefit of VCES

With less than 10 days remaining for tax defaulters to comply under the Voluntary Compliance Encouragement Scheme (VCES), Office of the Commissioner of Service Tax has said that any person who fails to pay a minimum of 50 per cent tax dues declared under the scheme will forfeit the benefits of the scheme.
 
R Periasami, commissioner in the office of The Commissioner of Service Tax said that as per Rule 3 of VCES rules 2013, unregistered person who wishes to opt for VCES should register before applying for VCES scheme.
 
“Since the process of taking registration and updation of registration date by National Securities Depository and banks may take few working days, all are advised to take registration well in advance.
 
He said that VCES, 2013 provides a golden opportunity to pay all ‘tax dues’ from the period October 2007 to December 2012 without interest, penalty and other legal proceedings including prosecution.
 
In Chennai the major chronic tax evasion has been by immovable property renters, work contract service and  maintenance and repair sector etc.
