Bank unions threaten 48 hour stir

Chennai:
Nine bank unions under the umbrella of United Forum of Bank Unions have threatened to under a 48-hour strike on January 20-21 to protest against bank reforms and non-implementation of wage revision for more than one year.
 
All India Bank Employees’ Association general secretary C H Venkatachalam said that UFBU will observe 48 hours continuous strike all over India in all the banks from 6 am on January 20 to 6 am on January 22, 2014 if the Indian Banks’ Association fail to improve their offer and come forward to settle the demands expeditiously.
 
“Even after the strike on December 18 by which the employees and officers have shown their resentment over the inadequate offer, no steps have been taken to resume the talks and to improve their offer on wage revision to bank employees,” said Venkatachalam.
 
Cheque transactions worth more than Rs 2,200 crore were hit in Chennai as more than 1,400 bank branches in the city remained closed on December 18.
