Switch to digitisation or MSOs will cut cable connection, warns TRAI

Chennai:
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on Wednesday expressed concern over tardy implementation of Digital addressable Cable TV systems in Chennai.
TRAI has directed the multi-system operators to take immediate steps to ensure that only digital and encrypted signals are transmitted in their network and duly filled in consumer application form (CAF) are collected from the subscriber and complete details of CAF including choice of channels are entered into the subscriber management system.
The authority would closely monitor the progress in this regard and would take all possible actions, including penal action as per the TRAI Act to ensure compliance of regulatory framework.
In a statement, it warned the cable TV subscribers that analog cable TV signal is illegal in Chennai and they should ensure that they receive TV connection from cable TV operator supplying DAS signale else the cable TV connection may be switched off.
“The Cable TV subscribers are requested to complete and submit completed consumer application form to respective cable operator or MSO at the earliest to enjoy full benefits of digitisation.
“IF they fail, MSOs will have no option but to switch off the signal to those consumers who have not submitted CAF otherwise,” TRAI said.
The decision was taken after convening a meeting of broadcasters, MSOs and cable operator association of Chennai to review the progress of implementation of Digital Addessable Cable TV system in Chennai Metropolitan Area.
