TN to get full quota of 1100 MW of power by the month end, says NLC chief

Chennai:
Tamil Nadu will again get the full quota of 1100 MW of power from Neyveli Lignite Corporation by the end of this month, according to chairman and managing director of NLC B Surender Mohan.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of two-day national conference on PR, Corporate Communications and Emerging Trends in Corporate Social Responsibility, he said that currently NLC is supplying 900 MW of power to Tamil Nadu as few of its operations are shut down due to maintenance.
“This is a regular exercise and unintentional. The shutdown happen every time during the month of monsoon and one should not attribute it to being a ploy to cut down power in the state,” he said.
Mohan also said that Tamil Nadu is getting more than the quota of what it should get during the maintenance period. He said NLC is currently supplying the state with 900 MW of power as against the quota of 800 MW.
He said the state’s share is 1100 MW in the total installed capacity of 2,490 MW. The NLC plants are short of 310 MW due to maintenance, which is usually taken during the month of monsoon after consultations with the Central Electricity Authority and state government.
Earlier, Mohan highlighted how social networking sites play an important role in providing instant information. He also welcomes the new Corporate Social Responsibility Bill which would help spread goodwill among the people and end the control of politician who dictate on where the money should be spent.
He said NLC role in corporate social responsibility is more towards those areas where the mining operations take place. Currently, NLC mines in 84 square kilometre, he said.
Surender Mohan was also felicitated with Corporate Citizenship Award for the developments Neyveli Lignite Corporation has brought in the peripheral villages of the project area.
During the session, public relation experts highlighted the various challenges they are facing with the changes in technology and mushrooming of social network sites online. R K Dharan, chairman of public relations society of India (PRSI) and Harish Bijoor, brand expert and chief executive officer of Harish Bijoor Consults spoke on the occasion
