A report by Anna University has given a clean chit to Manjambakkam
truck terminal after a CMDA engineer alleged irregularities committed
in the construction of Rs 20 crore Manjambakkam truck terminal.
A CMDA source told Express that the investigation by Anna University
on newly inaugurated Manjambakkam truck terminal after a junior
engineer of CMDA alleged irregularities in the truck terminal built on
12 acres of land to accommodate to 400 container trucks was completed.
The report stated that the quality of work in the truck terminal is
good.
The investigation into the alleged irregularities comes in the wake of
Junior engineer Gnanarathinam, who has over 15 years experience, shot
out a letter to the member secretary of Chennai Metropolitan
Development Authority alleging poor quality of the work being done on
Manjambakkam Container Truck Terminal.
The Anna university report stated that it is satisfied with the work
but has recommended a barrier to be set up around the pile pillar.
Interestingly, with the clean chit to the truck terminal, the fate of
Gnanarathinam hangs in balance. A senior CMDA official said that
disciplinary proceedings would be initiated against Gnanarathinam for
bring disrepute to CMDA.
In the letter, Gnanaratinam has stated that, “I have committed many
mistakes while working under executive engineer Srinivasa Rao and
superintendent engineer Om Narayanan. I feel guilty. I have now turned
approver.”
