TN plans to formulate state youth policy, says RGNIYD director

Chennai:

After the National Youth Policy was announced earlier this year, Tamil
Nadu government has evinced keen interest to have a state level youth
policy, according to director of Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of
Youth Development (RGNIYD) Latha Pillai.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Pillai said that the
state has taken the initiative to have a state level youth policy and
contours of the policy will be outlined during a seminar on National
Youth Policy 2014 to be held here on September 12.

Pillai said that the seminar will be attended by stakeholders from the
government departments, academicians, NGO representatives,
practitioners and experts on youth development.

Interestingly, the National Youth Policy 2014, which was spearheaded
by RGNIYD, was launched across the country in various universities,
colleges, youth development organizations across the country on
February 21 by the previous UPA government.

She said each state is required to enunciate its own State Youth
Policy keeping the overall national perspective set out in the
National Youth policy 2014.

To a query on whether there will be changes in the National Youth
Policy with the new government coming up in the Centre, Pillai said
that the new government is in sync with what has been drafted.

She said the BJP government is bringing together different
stakeholders to implement the policy.

She said the focus areas during the seminar here would be on
education, entrepreneurship, health, employability besides special
emphasis would be on national integration and social values.
Interestingly, this is also the first such event after the Bjp
government has taken over at the Centre.
