Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board has sought Rs 4.85 crore to impart
skill development training benefitting 7500 slum youth under state
budgetary support.
TNSCB sources told Express that following the announcement in state
assembly to impart skill development training to youth residing in
slums, the slum board has come up with three proposals to implement
the scheme in six districts of Chennai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Salem,
Madurai and Tirunelveli.
Under the first proposal, TNSCB will offer skill development training
programme for 3,750 youth.
Sources said under this scheme, TNSCB will mobilize candidates for
training proposed by Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation. The
training cost will be remitted to the concerned training institutions
and youth will be trained in cell phone repair training through BSNL,
training in retail sector sales through cooperative training
institution, security services skill training through state police
department, training in light engineering and basic computer course
training.
The second proposal is to conduct training through identified
government or non-government organizations, academic institutions,
corporate and registered commercial institutions.
This will also target 3,750 youth from slums. Under this programme,
the skills of youth will be upgraded through courses like Nurse Aid,
fashion designing and power sewing machine, cosmetology, web designing
and electrical home appliances servicing and car driving.
Under the third proposal, TNSCB has sought setting up of skill
development centres at Perumbakkam, okkiam Thoraipakkam and Kannagi
Nagar and other Resettlement and Rehabilitation Schemes in the six
districts for the benefit of resettled youth.
