Metro Rail over bridge near Guindy station to be completed in 15-20 days

Chennai:
Chennai Metro rail is set to bridge the gap in the elevated stretch
linking Guindy to Alandur station with the erection of steel girder
rail over bridge near Guindy station.



A metro rail source told Express that work is under progress to
complete the bridge which is about 105 metres.



The bridge will be connected by steel girders. The superstructure is
fabricated at yard and assembled on the piers of the approach station
area and launched to its final position by nose launching method.



So far, 38m of superstructure have been moved towards the location.
After the completion of launching to its final span locations. It will
be lowered over the respective bearing and deck slab will be casted to
pave way for track works.



The whole process would take around 15 to 25 days. The work will
happen only between midnight to 3.30 am nwhen the traisn won’t
function in the area. “It is a challenging task and utmost care has to
be taken to complete the work,” said Chennai Metro Rail Chief general
manager Somasundaram.


Meanwhile, the sixth train set manufactured from Alstom factory, Sri
City, Andhra Pradesh has reached the metro rail depot in Koyambedu.
This is the sixth train out of 33 trains to be delivered from Sri
City. Unloading and coupling of cars has been initiated.



After preliminary checks, the train will be subjected to
non-regression testing at workshop line and then it will be moved to
test track for further testing and dynamic trails.
