Vasan threatens to sue Kejriwal over linking his name to corruption

Chennai:
Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan on Friday threatened to file a defamation suit against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for making allegations of corruption against him.
His statement comes in the wake of Kejriwal proclaiming a series of top national leaders, including Vasan, as being corrupt and stated that his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will target them in the national election.
Stating that he doesn’t need a certificate from an irresponsible person who has neither respect for rule of law nor any inclination for constructive development work, the Shipping minister said if Kejriwal fails to take back his statement and issue an unconditional apology, he will be forced to seek legal remedy including filing a defamation suit against him to protect his fair name and honour.
“I was surprised and shocked to see the allegations of corruption made by Kejriwal against me and Shipping Ministry.  I think the Chief Minister of Delhi has included my name and Shipping Ministry probably in connection with the public interest litigation filed by an NGO and in which Prashant Bhushan was the counsel which relates to land matters,” Vasan said.
“I would like to mention that the issue on which the PIL was filed related to the period before I joined as Shipping Minister.  Once the issue came to my notice I took proactive steps to get market value fixed for the lands and also to make tender-cum-auction methodology mandatory for land leases.  We also directed the Port to takeover all the lands in dispute for which the leases have expired,” he said.
“This being the factual position I am shocked to see the Delhi Chief Minister issuing the statement totally ignorant of the facts and development in the case. It is a reflection of the arrogance of the  AAP leaders who believe that they are the only honest souls on this earth and no other politician can be honest,” the minister said.
“It has been my endeavour ever since I came to politics to be honest and clean in all my dealings, political, personal or official and to uphold probity in public life and at the same time provide a constructive development oriented governance.  I am proud to say that I have been able to stick to my principles and guard my reputation all these years,” he added.
