More than 400 delegates representing 2.5 lakh power sector workers across India will take part in the Seventh national conference of Electricity Employees’ Federation of India in Kanchipuram from August 10 to 12..
Addressing a press conference Central Organisation of Tamil nadu Electricity Employees president K Vijayan, general seceratry S S Subramanian and Centre of Indian Trade Unions general secretary Karumalaiyan said that meeting is likely to stress on the need for electricity for all at affordable rates besides hitting out at the neo-liberalisation policies of the government.
The meeting would also call for social security for employees and abolition of casual contract and outsourcing system. He said the meeting would also discuss on strategies against the proposed December 12 nationwide protest.
Vijayan said that the state government should also review the seven independent power projects taken during the DMK regime in 2000. He said the state electricity board was bleeding as the state has entered into unfair 15-year contract with the IPPs.
