Chennai region has the highest number of patents filed in India and it accounts for 30 to 35 per cent of the total patents filed last year, according to Controller general of patents, designs and trademarks and registrar of geographical indications Chaitanya Prasad.
Talking to reporters after addressing a seminar on ‘Public Awareness Building on the Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks’ organized by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry here on Tuesday, he said that Chennai region has been topping during the last two years when it comes to the number of patents filed.
He also said the number of applications for registeration of trademarks being received by the Indian Intellectual Property Office has been increasing every year. As per 2012 World Intellectual has been increasing 12 per cent year on year.
