Chennai:
Tamil Nadu
can heave a sigh of relief from power crisis as the state is expected to get
power from other states with the connectivity between southern grid and the
national grid is expected to be completed by January 2014.
As the
state is undergoing power cuts from this month, Power Grid director (projects)
I S Jha said that the state is expected to get power from January 2014 from the
national grid but he did not specify what quantum of power the state will get.
Addressing
a press conference to announce Power Grid corporations further public offer of
787,053,309 equity shares, Jha said that laying two 765 KV lines between Raichur in Karnataka to Solapur in
Maharashtra would be completed by January 2014 and it will have a capacity to
transmit 2000 MW of power.
While one
of the line is being laid by Power Grid Corporation, the other is laid by a
consortium of private companies. Each has a capacity of 1,000 MW.
However,
one can’t say how much power the state will get initially. It all depends once
connectivity gets stabilized which is likely to take four to five months.
Jha also
said the state would also get power from Chhatisgarh once the proposal of
Chhatisgarh-Pogalur transmission line of 800 kilo volt to transmit 4,000 MW of
power gets the official nod. It is believed to be in the advanced stages.
N
Ravikumar, executive director of Power Grid Corporation of India, said
that while state is expected to get power once the southern grid is connected
to national grid but much will also depend on the completion of
Dharmapur-Madhugiri and Nellore-Tiruvalam lines which could take six to nine
months respectively.
