Weathermen keeping their fingers crossed on status of NE monsoon

Chennai:
Weathermen are keeping their finger crossed on the status of north east monsoon in Tamil Nadu stating that still three weeks are left for the season to end.

Although the likelihood of the state receiving substantial rain remains elusive and weathermen say the system over the southwest Bay of Bengal is unlikely to yield substantial rains for the city.

E A Raj, deputy director general of meteorology, regional meteorological center Chennai, said that currently the system lying close to Sri Lanka which is likely to concentrate into a depression is now moving towards north east. It is located eight degree latitude and 84 degree longtitude.  “This is unlikely that it could bring in rains to Tamil Nadu,” he said.

The state is facing a deficit of 27 per cent of rainfall. Interestingly, the news may not enthuse water managers in the city who had some hope in the revival of north east monsoon in the state.
