Rs 2 cr cash, Rs 2 cr worth of gold seized

Unaccounted income worth Rs 100 crore was detected during the raids being carried out by Income tax department on the premises of film stars and film financiers in three states, according to Income Tax sources.
The raids which were carried out at the premises of actor Vijay, whose film Puli got released on Friday, actresses Nayanthara and Samatha, film financiers and producers.
“It is hard to give exact break-up on the unaccounted income detected during the raids being carried out against 10 persons. But we do confirm that there were tax evasions on their part,” said the official.
“We will be collecting taxes worth Rs 30 crore from all the 10 persons whose premises were raided,” said the source.
Interestingly, the raids are likely to get over by midnight.
Income Tax officials also seized rs two crore woth of cash and Rs 2 crore worth of gold during the raid being conducted at the premises of teh 10 persons. They refused to divulge from whom all the cash and gold was recovered.
“This is from all the 10 people put together,” said the source, adding that income tax department will continue their action against the tax evaders.
Interestingly, this is one of the major seizures during the recent time. Talking about the film industry, the official said that there has been lot of tax evasion. “The transactions happen through the money lending sector. However, we are tracking continously monitoring through various sources,” the income tax source added.
