Chennai:
The Housing secretary has convened a high level meeting on Monday to work out a solution over the issue of unauthorised buildings in George Town after Madras High Court gave four weeks time to him to submit a roadmap to tackle the menace.
Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner, Housing secretary and Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority member secretary will take part in the meeting to discuss the Madras High Court judgement that has given four weeks deadline to submit a report to tackle the illegal buildings.
Interestingly, Madras High court has stated that since the secretary alone can’t deal with the problem of illegal buildings, it has observed the need for number of authorities to be enhanced to tackle this issue.
It also highlighted the issue of pendency of appeals which block the action taken against the illegal buildings.
It is learnt that Madras High Court wants a proposed structure so as to deal with such appeals in order to clear the area of unauthorised buildings.
