Four-member SC appointed Committee to visit Moulivakkam crash site on April 14

The fate of the the second unconstructed 11-storey building in Moulivakkam would soon be decided by the four member team appointed by Supreme Court which will inspect the Moulivakkam crash site on April 14.

The team comprising of assistant professor of Indian Institute of New Delhi, Shashank Bisnoi, National Building Construction chairman (Structure) L P Singh, senior advocate Ashok Kumar Gupta and advocate Gaurav Agarwal will visit the site and submit a report over the stability of second structure before the court.

The court, which is to hear the case on April 18, has asked the committee to submit a report with regard to strength and stability of the building.

The court has told the committee that they wanted to know whether the building has the strength to withstand any natural calamity or it is likely to collapse at any point of time without there being a calamity.

It is learnt that the committee has already sought details about all documents pertaining to the building.

This comes after High court had quashed Kancheepuram collector’s order to demolish the second unconstructed building on December last year. 

The enquiry commission of state government had termed the building unsafe and wanted it to be demolished. 

Several Public Interest litigations, including the one by DMK leader M K Stalin was filed before the court seeking demolition of the structure, CBI probe into the incident as well as hike in compensation. The three builders who were arrested when the building collapsed are out on bail.
