Microsoft launches Office 365 University

In a bid to narrow down digital divide and strengthen education system on par with international standards, Microsoft on Tuesday launched Office 365 University for higher education students.



Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, general manager of Microsoft Office division, Microsoft India Ramkumar Pichai said that Office 365 University will be a trusted and integral part of students’ everyday always-on, always-connected life, taking full advantage of cloud and touch capabilities.



Priced at Rs 4,199 for a year subscription, Pichai said the special pricing for students will help provide them with opportunities and empower them to develop the necessary skills to be successful in the fast paced campus environment making them future ready as they join the workforce of tomorrow.



Office 365 University is available for full-time and part-time students studying in accredited colleges and universities. Students can either subscribe the software, which includes the latest and most complete set of office applications and comes with office on demand and an additional 20 GB premium SkyDrive Storage.



To buy it, students have to go online at www.office.com/verify to verify their eligibility in order to activate Office. During the verification process, students will need to fill out their university credentials or their student identity card details.



Pichai said that apart from full-time and part-time enrolled university college students, faculty and staff in accredited institutions are also eligible to purchase an Office 365 University subscription.

He said that Microsoft Office 365 University is built on the philosophy of empowering youth to imagine and realize their full potential by connecting them with greater opportunities for education, employment and entreprenuership.


The product will help stregthen education and expand digital exclusion besides provide inspiration and tools to imagine new opportunities and  help youth realize new opportunities of employability and entreprenuership, he added.
