Advocate contesting polls on pro-Hindi plank

Chennai:
Although a section of advocates may have been campaigning for making Tamil the official language of Madras High Court, but an advocate is vying to make a difference in North Chennai by contesting the Lok Sabha elections under a new outfit on the pro-Hindi, pro-Brahmin and anti-corruption plank.
The founder president of the Tamil Maanila Katchi, advocate R C Paul Kanagaraj told Express that the party, which was launched on February 17 keeping in mind all segments of population in Tamil Nadu, is trying to reach the electorate by stressing the need for Lok Ayukta besides cleaning up the political system.
Rejecting that Aaam Aadmi Party and Tamil Maanila Katchi are similar, Kanagaraj says, “AAP is only about eradicating corruption. Other than that they don’t have any agenda. My party is about cleaning the political system besides focusing on providing quality education for Tamil youth and social issues,” he says.
Interestingly, Kanagaraj, who is also president of Madras High Court Advocates’ Association, is for Tamils gaining some basic knowledge of Hindi. “I am for basic Hindi education in the state,” he says.
Stating that students from the state are highly qualified but lack basic Hindi or English skills as such they take up lowly paid jobs that don’t match their education qualifications.
However, he also backs the demand for Tamil being made the official language in the courts.
Although the party has yet to get symbol and Kanagaraj says that they have opted for Bell, Book and Axe. Talking about his campaign, he says his cadres are trying to connect the people to push for Lokayukta in the state. “Many states have Lokayukta. In our state we don’t have a Lokayukta. About 2000 students joined the campaign,” he said.
Interestingly, Kanagaraj is optimistic that his party would make inroads in North Chennai
