Chennai:
Madras High Court has appointed a former judge to oversee
the proceedings of Extraordinary General Body meeting of Tamil Film Producers
Council to be conducted on May 11.
This comes after Tamil film Producers Council moved the
bench of Justice M Jaichandren and Justice M Venugopal to set aside the earlier
order passed by a single judge restraining the conduct of extraordinary general
body meeting.
The judges after hearing the counsels of the respondents,
S Thanu of V Creations, A N Pavithran of ARS International, M M Thaha of Royal
Movies and N G Murugesh set aside the earlier order to conduct extraordinary
general body meeting based on the requisition made by regular producer members
to consider ‘No Confidence’ motion proposed to be moved by the members by
placing the same in the agenda of the meeting.
The judges appointed former Madras High Court judge P
Shanmugam as ‘observer’ of the meeting and take appropriate steps to ensure
that the proceedings of extraordinary general body meeting takes place in a
peaceful and smooth manner.
The judges stated that the observer will ensure that the
resolution relating to the ‘No confidence Motion’ is decided by way of voting
by secret ballot as per regulations and the result will be announced by the
observer.
The remuneration of the observer is fixed at Rs two lakh
and it shall be paid by Tamil Film Producers’ Council.
The report relating to the proceedings shall be filed by
the observer before the court within a period of 10 days after the conclusion
of the meeting.
