Chennai:
Election Commission has submitted before the High court that it will consider the plea to constitute a special team to monitor DMK candidate R Thamarai Selvan and PMK candidate Anbumani Ramadoss while canvassing for votes and addressing public meetings.
Senior counsel for Election Commission G Rajagaopalan submitted before the first bench comprising acting Chief Justice Satish K Agnihotri and Justice M M Sundresh after a petitioner sough direction from the High court to constitute a special team to monitor Selvan and Ramdass and initiate action against them for inciting communal feelings.
S Muthuraj, who argued for the petitioner S Abdul Ghafoor, said that the speeches made by Selvan and Ramdoss is sensitive and could incite communal violence and preventive action should be made to stop them from making any such speeches.
Rajagopalan said that the representation will be considered in accordance with law and appropriate steps will be taken to ensure smooth conduct of elections
