Chennai:
DMK has urged Madras High Court to direct Election Commission not to permit DGP K Ramanujam to hold the post of state administrative head till the conclusion of Lok Sabha elections.
The petition which was filed by DMK organizing secretary T K S Elangovan stated that Ramanujam should not be permitted to hold the post of administrative head when Anoop jaiswal has been appointed DGP till the conclusion of election process.
Quoting Election Commission notification letter dated January 9, 2014, Elangovan stated that Clause (vi) of the notification states that all officials who stand transferred in pursuance of instructions shall be asked to move physically out of the district from which they stand transferred immediately on receipt of transfer orders.
“The chief election commissioner has gone to the extent of stating that the transferred officials should not even remain in the same district by obtaining leave,” the petitioner submitted.
However, in this case Ramanujam is still continuing as DGP even though a new DGP has been appointed which is contrary to the guidelines issued by Election commission, the petitioner stated.
He alleged that presence of two DGPs will crate operational difficulties and will not address major issue of free and fair elections.
