Chennai:
Union Minister for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Kalraj Mishra on Thursday played down the threat of Chinese imported items to Indian MSMEs saying the country is waiting for the right time to enhance the potential of our goods.
Addressing reporters after the inauguration ceremony of MSME-Samsung Technical School, Chennai for Advanced Repair and Industrial Skills Enhancement here on Thursday, the minister said that China is trying to enhance their economy and are trying to import their items in the country.
“Time will come when we can through our MSMEs enhance our potential,” he said.
His statement comes in the wake of data compiled by the director general of commercial intelligence and statistics revealing that as many as 12 product groups, largely manufactured by the Indian MSMEs, were adversely affected by Chinese imports.
He said the government is planning technology upgradation of MSMEs in design, technical quality as well as in other areas.
The minister also hailed the state for patronising MSMEs and said that MSMEs are massive in Tamil Nadu when compared to other parts of India.
Talking about MSME-Samsung Technical School, the minister said that under the initiative the technical schools will be established in 10 places in the country. “ I have inaugurated the schools in Varanasi, Hyderabad and Ludhiana. Chennai is the fourth such place,” he said.
Under this programme we shall be able to impart training to 10,000 youth every year. “The youth after getting training will be able to get employment in Samsung or in other manufacturing concerns, the minister added.
Interestingly, the government has also signed up an Memorandum of understanding with Samsung Electronics to set up MSME-Samsung Digital Academies in 50 places across the country.
“Under this academy, youth will be trained to develop mobile applications based on Tizen Software,” he said.
He also highlighted that the ministry has developed 114 modular courses of skill development and in order to make them more purposeful, the government has arranged translation of such courses in 10 languages, including Tamil. Interestingly, this will benefit trainees in the state to great extent.
He said such initiatives will improve the employability of unemployed youth. This will boost the skills of youth and they could even get jobs abroad, he said.
Teh minister also said that 15 lakh students get technical education in India every year but the number of such persons who actually get employment is much less.
