TN Vigilance Commission seeks action on ‘victimisation’ complaint by town planning consultant

Tamil Nadu Vigilance Commission has asked Housing and Urban Development Secretary to initiate action against a petition alleging abuse of power by CMDA officials in processing planning permission applications.

In a letter to the Housing and Urban Development secretary recently, the state vigilance commission secretary G Elangovan sought action against the petition by K M Sadanandh, a town planning and project management consultant.

Interestingly, this is the second letter by the Vigilance Commission after no action has been taken against the complaint by Sadanandh, who has alleged victimisation by CMDA officials after highlighting some issues in organising the 63rd National town and Country Planners Congress held in the city last year.  

Interestingly, the Housing secretary has sought action taken report from CMDA member secretary specifically pertaining to allegations where in Sadanand has alleged that then chief planner S Rajasekarapandian and chief planner S Chitra discriminated him in his professional practise and victimised him in obtaining planning permissions in CMDA, particularly pertaining to two multi-storey projects.

Sadanand has alleged that one was rejected by reason as “Industrial land use’ and another was ‘inadequate road width’. “It is a different scale to me and a special scale for others in a similar situation with liberal favours to others,” he has stated.

Interestingly, the vigilance commission’s letter seeking action against the complaint comes at a time when the Personal and Administrative Reforms (Training) Department is examining the suggestions of Regupathi Commission to form a special unit in Vigilance department to deal with underground transactions between officials and realtors
